This course introduces biodiversity, biodiplomacy and bioprospecting. An appreciation is made of the rich diversity of African life and the link between traditional knowledge and nature in bioprospecting. The principles of bioprospecting principles and approaches are covered and the concept of Intellectual Property rights introduced to understand the violation, implications and politics of biopiracy and bioprospecting.
