Welcome to BCOM 305,This course will take learners through an exciting journey that will acquaint them with new ideas and knowledge about economic policy matters that affect economic growth and development within a country. The Economic Policy Analysis course provides up-to-date techniques to draw practical lessons from data to contribute to the effective implementation of policy. The course of study combines a multi-disciplinary approach to policy analysis with focused study on the use of economic tools to analyze policy issues. The course has a broad reach and is relevant to the subject for under graduate students as well as to people who work in the world of economic policy and business. The course is designed with a view to develop skills as well as capacity to equip learners with the theoretical and applied tools/techniques that will allow you to analyse the problems relating to economic policy issues under given scenarios in the economic development process of developing countries across the world in a systematic and analytical way.
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
Explain the role of the state in policy making and implementation process in given a country
a. Describe major steps in public policy making cycle
b. Develop capacity and ability to analyse critical macroeconomic policies that adopted by developing countries, Kenya in particular.
c. Identify economic problems in Kenya and prepare policy brief thereof.
d. Appraise the performance of public enterprises in Kenya and suggest relevant management policy areas to stir their growth and development.
